Undergoing MyBlogLog Verification? Puhleeeze!

It just occurred to us that the verification feature released yesterday is a golden opportunity to involve the entire MyBlogLog community in a collaborative art project. Right now, the default text for your verification link is Undergoing MyBlogLog Verification. As more and more sites use this phrase to verify themselves, the search engine ranking for MyBlogLog for this phrase will rise to the top. Basic SEO stuff, right?

An accurate description of what's going on? Yes.

Boring and, shall we say, a tad, "lifeless?" Most Definitely.

Here's what we propose.

Leave a comment below with a phrase you think would be cool to come up as a result #1 on your search engine of choice. Manny, (the engineer who coded the feature) suggested, "best site evar" - we threw around a couple of others but then I thought - why not let everyone in on the action.

This can be our own little easter egg. Something to show your friends.

BlogWorld Expo Is Only 2 Days Away

I'm so looking forward to BlogWorld Expo. While my panel is Friday at 1:30pm on Utilizing Social Media, I think I'm most excited about the Pajama Party Thursday night at the Hard Rock Cafe Casino.  It's where they'll be holding the 2007 Weblog Awards.

We are the proud sponsor of The Best Online Community award.  While I've already voted for my fav, I hope you'll do the same.   I can't wait to hand this award to the winner.  Take a moment to go and vote for your favorite community.

Thanksgiving With Ozzy

Ever wanted to eat dinner with a famous, err, infamous rock star?  Well a pal over at solow.com is having a wacky contest to give away three punk-filled days in LA and dinner with Ozzy Osbourne and family.

The deets are here:  www.solow.com/ozzy

Dinner with Sharon and Ozzy?  I don't think my heart could take it, but it sounds like a blast!

BlogWorld Expo

I'll be at BlogWorld Expo in November, speaking on Social Media and giving away MBL Pro accounts like candy.  If any of you are interested in coming to heckle me, you can get in with a discount by using the code MBLVIP at checkout.  That gives you a 15% discount on registration ($25 off full access pass and $100+ off the E&E conference).  Act fast though, it's only good to 10/11/07.

Hope to see you there.  If you are going, ping me at robyn@mybloglog.com so we can exchange cell phone numbers and have a drink together.

Ahoy! Talk Like A Pirate Day

Another year, another Pirate Day.  Spend a few minutes today in character as your favorite bootlegger, and don't forget to drop anchor and take the talk offline too.

And, stop by Flickr, and get your talking Pirate.  If you speak Pirate, and today you'd better, take a look at Yodel for the low-down.

Happy Blog Day 2007

Blog Day is two years old today.  If you've never participated in a Blog Day, here's what the founders have to say about why it was started back in 2005.

BlogDay was created with the belief that bloggers should have one day
dedicated to getting to know other bloggers from other countries and
areas of interest. On that day Bloggers will recommend other blogs to
their blog visitors.

So, without further ado, here are a few blogs we think you should check out:

Todd Sampson

TEDBlog
- Technology, Entertainment & Design -- all things
important and amazing

OKDork.com
- Marking and tech buzz written by a team of outsourced
labor overseas (and guided by the mad genius Noah Kagen)

Tim Ferriss's Blog
- Author of the 4-Hour Workweek shares great tips,
stories and interviews

Fred Wilson's A VC Blog
- Master VC, music nut and "The King of Bling"

New Scientist
- Great tech/science coverage -- if only they would give
full descriptions in their feed!

orgtheory.net
- Distilled accounts of advances in sociology and network
theory

Gridskipper
: San Francisco - Cool/odd things to do around my fair city

AirFareWatchdog
: San Francisco - Great deals for when I just need
to get away...

As you can tell from my list, I'm getting into GTD lately.

Now, it should be noted that most of our engineers can't count, and sent in more or less than 5.  And, as Eric turned us all onto LOLCatz, I'd be remiss not to mention ICanHasCheezburger.

Otherwise, I've enjoyed perusing all of these sites, some were great, some very helpful, and some, erm, interesting ones as well.  I can't believe how many of us read valleywag.  Our dirty little secret is out, I guess.

Now, off to look at all of your picks.

Blog Day Coming Up

Blog Day 2007

Blog Day is coming up this Friday (see their MyBlogLog community).
For fun, instead of just having me pick out 5 great sites to spotlight,
each member of our team is going to show off their own fav blogs.

Are you participating in Blog Day this Friday?  If so, leave me a
comment.  I can't wait to get introduced to your favorite blogs!

MyBlogLog as a Tokyo Subway Stop

MyBlogLog in Tokyo

The folks over at Information Architects Japan have re-purposed the Tokyo Metropolitan Subway map and made it into a map of the Web 2.0 world. Needless to say, we were thrilled to see our own little MyBlogLog tucked in and surrounded by the likes of Twitter, Google Blogsearch, and the NYTImes. I've spent a few years in Tokyo so a quick check of the original subway map shows that MyBlogLog is in Kagurazaka - an old neighborhood once famous for it's geisha houses but now populated with small publishing houses and animation studios fed by the numerous little French bistros tucked into the back alleys.

I think that just about sums up where we see ourselves.

Check out NextWeb (and maybe vote for us if you’re so inclined)

It's been a busy week for the boys and girls of MyBlogLog.  Loads of meetings, parties, conferences and heck, it's only Thursday.  If you're at the SOBcon in Chi, make sure to meet up with Robyn who will be speaking there.

Yesterday was awesome.  First the STIRR shindig in Palo Alto, where we caught up with one of our favorite people, Jeff Clavier.  We also hooked up with Yahoo Superstar Ian Kennedy, OATV's Mark Jacobs and Orange Labs' Evangelist Pascale Diaine, who looked as ravishing as ever (yes, I'm constantly moon-eyed about high-tech chicks, what of it :) .  We also hooked up with Boris and co from the NextWeb Conference in AmsterdamThey looked sharp in their matching white suits and filled us in on the conference deets.  Afterwards, we rolled to the Involver party in San Francisco and hung out with MyBlogLog co-founder and recent Yahoo expat Scott Rafer and Mashery CEO Oren Michels.  And because we're married lightweights, we bounced at 10:30 before we turned into pumpkins.  Thus ends this episode of "Lifestyles of the House-poor and Internet-famous".

But seriously, check out the NextWeb conference and awards.  Sure, I'm promoting them a bit because we're nominated in the Populizr category.  I'm also promoting it because a bunch of old and new buds are affiliated with it.  But mainly I'm promoting it because it's fun and simple and that's what I'm in the mood for today.  Have a look at the NextWeb Awards!

Update: Priceless picture of Ian and Todd at STIRR.

Trying out Twitter

Hey y'all.  I'm checking out Twitter.  If you're interested in checking out my feed, I'm bpm140.  If you want me to check out your feed, send me a message on MyBlogLog.  If it's cool, we might look at some ways of integrating Twitter with MyBlogLog.
