MyBlogLog hiring two engineers

Have you got the web skills that pay the bills?  MyBlogLog is adding two engineers to the team and we'd love to recruit them directly from our membership -- after all, it worked with Robyn ;)   If you are a kick-ass LAMP developer or Ops engineer, then we want to hear from you.

A couple of ground rules:

  • You must be eligible to work in the United States
  • You are either close to Berkeley, CA or willing to relocate immediately
  • You must like gobs of money -- Yahoo! pays really well

There are two openings, so make sure to read both.  If you fit either of these positions and meet the ground rules above, please send an email to eric@mybloglog.com along with a resume and a list of sites on which you've worked.

The return… of the AUTO JOIN!

Will the wonders of shiny new boxes ever cease?  Our auto-join feature, which suggests communities that you are likely to enjoy, is back online after a several month hiatus.  Starting today you may get an occasional email listing communities that you have been joined to.  As always, you can unjoin just by visiting the community and clicking the link in the top right of the page.

You can change the number of page views required to join communities (or turn the feature off, heaven forbid) on your profile page.  It's one of the options toward the bottom.  Alternatively, if you opted out of this feature when you signed up, you might want to edit your profile and see what we're so excited about.

MyBlogLog In The Wild

Seeing passionate users build things to make your service work better or interact with another service is really one of the highest forms of flattery.  Two such items I have recently seen made us all smile just a bit here in the office.

Drupal Module
Drupal is a CMS I've only recently begun playing with, but thus far have been impressed at its simplicity and, conversely, its depth.  I set up a friend's blog a few weeks ago using Drupal, and was able to easily set up several contact pages, a checkout system and all sorts of things not possible with a traditional blog, with relative ease.  Considering I've only done one major development project in my life, I was amazed at how easy this set-up was.  It was during this time that I found out that Michael Curry of Exodus Development had developed a MyBlogLog module for use on Drupal sites.

Wordpress Theme

And then today, I came across a MyBlogLog-ready Wordpress theme by Moses Francis (sponsored by Internet Marketing Center) that I think some of you will really like.  Rkcorp says:

3cWPTP is a 3 column theme and white body background. The theme comes with cute litte bubble cloud text menu tag and lovely greenish colour. It got a plenty of rooms of any ads related stuff in the sidebar. It also widget ready and coded function for most commented, latest comment and myblog’s myavatar. The theme suitable for mybloglog users since its colour tone are prefect match with it.

It's important to note that you still have to download the widget's plugin to make the Recent Readers widget show up, but Moses makes it easy for listing each plugin you'll need and linking to the individual download pages for each.  Of course, you'll also have to be using Wordpress 2.0 or greater to utilize the theme to it's fullest.

If you've done something cool with MyBlogLog or seen something that you think deserves mention, please let us know.

Pro Accounts For Microsoft MVPs

A MyBlogLog user, CoreyBryant, suggested to us that we offer Microsoft MVPs Pro accounts.  I've worked with several dozen MVPs over the last year and I think they are an amazing bunch of really talented people.  So, we all talked about Corey's suggestion and decided to do it.

So far we've only given away a handful of these, so if you are a Microsoft MVP, please let us know so we can update your account status to reflect it.  The only caveat is that you use the Reader Roll on your site.

Here's how it looks on Corey's site:

Any great ideas for us?  Put them here on this post or leave me a message on my MyBlogLog profile.

Site stats down — fixed!

We are aware of the problem and working on it.  More info soon.

Update @ 5:27p:

This has been fixed.  Thanks to Allen Yu for teaching us the ways to actually get someone to look at our trouble ticket.  Apparently listing it as a Pri 1 isn't enough to be taken seriously.  Now we know the code words.  We're still finding out whether we can recover the stats for the users who weren't tracking.

MyBlogLog at Web 2 Expo Monday and Tuesday

Todd and I will be at the expo all day on Monday and Tuesday so please drop me a note and let's schedule time to meet up.

Additionally, I just got added to a panel on the future of P2P (if you kind of tilt your head, it makes perfect sense for MyBlogLog to be there) and it would be great to have some MyBlogLoggers in the audience.  Here's the scoop on the panel.

Trying out Twitter

Hey y'all.  I'm checking out Twitter.  If you're interested in checking out my feed, I'm bpm140.  If you want me to check out your feed, send me a message on MyBlogLog.  If it's cool, we might look at some ways of integrating Twitter with MyBlogLog.

Clarification on how Reader Rolls work

Every once in a while someone posts that they figured out how to game the reader rolls and I wanted to clear up that while you will always see yourself at the top of the list (to verify that you are there and also give you an option to hide / unhide from the site) this is not what the rest of the world sees.  For everyone else, you show up at the top of the list and then slowly drop down as new people show up, no matter how often you refresh the page.

Say goodbye to the animated avatars, y’all

No need to spend a lot of text on this one.  The animated gifs bug enough people that we're getting rid of them.  Next Friday we're going to process all of the images and cut them down to a single, static frame.  If you have an animated avatar or community image, you have one week to update it or face the wheel of chance.

Meet Our Newest Hot Member: Teresa472001

Part of my job as Community Manager is to spotlight those members of the MyBlogLog community who ROCK.  One such member we're going to shine the spotlight on is Teresa from Blog Business Summit, TeresaCentric and InFlightHQ.

This self-described 'punk kid' is a great writer and has already lent her considerable voice to the MySpace/Photobucket fiasco, Hillary Clinton's presidential aspirations, the Blogger's Code of Conduct as well as several other great stories, and that's just this week!  I'm particulary partial to this one.

She's been quoted in The New York Times, Fast Company and Business Week, and she really knows her stuff.  If you are interested in business blogging, social networking, business travel or Web 2.0 (and I know you are).  Drop by Teresa's profile and check out her sites.

I hope you liked this Hot Member spotlight.  We're going to make it a regular feature here on the MyBlogLog blog.
