Just so there’s no confusion…

MyBlogLog WILL be moving to Yahoo IDs for login purposes in the next couple of months.  As soon as possible, actually.  I'm going to post this on a weekly basis so that it sinks in.

Also, since we keep getting emails about it, we're still not sure what's going to happen with the name.  Some people like it.  Some people are confused by it.  Some people would like to see it sitting next to the Titanic.  Joining the Yahoo! family seems a good time to look for something better fitting than "My Blog Stats" but who knows.  We're trying to figure out what would be best for the community moving forward, and if you have any thoughts, drop it in a comment.

Lastly, I'm thinking about going to Coachella this year.  A reformed RATM would be a blast to see, but seriously, I'm all about the Crowded House reunion day three.  Has anyone gone in past years, cuz I'd love to hear what you thought.  And if anyone is going this year, maybe we can hook up at the show.

Seeking: MyBlogLog uber-user for long-term relationship

Things are taking off.  I say that without an ounce of hubris -- MyBlogLog was already going in the right direction and now with Yahoo! at our back, everything is accelerating.  It's heady stuff :)

We're hiring our first community manager to become a core member of team and a key public face of the service.  This person will own customer service, fixing problems where possible and routing more complicated issues to the development team.  Based on customer emails, the community manager will develop a comprehensive faq, oversee a community-based help system (either a wiki or a bulletin board, you will help us decide) and advise the team on ways to improve MyBlogLog.  Lastly, the community manager be an active and vocal participant in the world inside and outside of MyBlogLog.com, spurring conversations, mediating disputes and just generally building kharma by making the world a better place.

There aren't a lot of formal requirements for this position.  It would be best if you are already in the Bay Area because we want to get this party started.  Previous community management isn't a requirement, but it would damn well move you to the top of the queue.  You just need to be passionate about connecting people and have a strong grasp of the English language.

Thinking about it, I'm going to take a page out of Union Square Venture's playbook -- if you're our community manager, send me a link to your blog.  This tact netted them the awesome Andrew Parker and I'd be psyched if we had similar results.

A little bit of Flickr love

MyBlogLog has welcomed its new corporate overlords (actually, we're loving it here, but I wanted to give a tip of the hat to The Blue) by integrating with Flickr.

Now it's even easier to post personal pictures on MyBlogLog via the "View / Add Pics" page.  Just click the button labeled "Click Here to Automatically Show Your Recent Flickr Photos" and we'll keep the page fresh with your 10 newest public Flickr photos.

Thanks to John for kicking butt this weekend to roll this feature out and Flickr for giving us hella fast support.  (I'm in Cali -- hello "hella", goodbye "wicked"!)

Loads of new MyBlogLog features

MyBlogLog creates loads of data and we've had pretty much zero opportunity to provide useful ways of using it.  Thankfully, SoloSEO has stepped in and created a suite of tools for analyzing your network and comparing it with other members.  There are six tools to check out, and my favorites are "Compare Your Contacts" which identifies common members between two communities as well as unique members for each, and "Add Missing Contacts" which lists members of your communities that you haven't added as a contact yet.

We've been talking about this for days at MyBlogLog.  This is really wonderful and we're excited that members are working hard to decode our system and build tools on top of it.  We're thinking hard about how to best roll out a robust API (see Flickr for how to do this right) but in all honestly, it's going to take a while.  If you think you can make MyBlogLog better right now, go for it!

Thanks again, SoloSEO.

Friending and Spam Update

As part of our spam reduction efforts, we're suspending the "BillyBob (or whomever) added you as a friend" email notifications. You will still receive and email when the Friending becomes mutual, but not when the friend invitation might be unsolicited. A lot of the attraction for the spammers has been the number of emails that go out with links to their pages on MyBlogLog.

For the moment, if you want to know who has added you as a friend without you responding, check out your page. If you have any unrequited contacts, there's a section called "My Admirers." Just click on the photos there and you can make those people your contacts too.

If there are replacement Friending notifications that you'd like us to add, please let us know.

Spam, Eggs, and Spam

The Yahoo acquisition raised our profile enough that we're getting attacked by some social spammers, both in terms of friend invitations and widget-hogging. We're working hard on getting the right solutions in place and making sure they are flexible enough to make our ongoing spam-reduction efforts fruitful. Thanks for your patience while we catch up.
